Now I understand that Trump True Believers like to believe that he is more popular than he is. Which amazes me since he does almost nothing to make anyone except his base happy. And on top of that he vilifies and name calls pretty much everyone who disagrees with him.
However I find this historical comparison and explanation very informative. Apparently he is coming in right behind Carter... But a little more popular than Truman. :-)
538 Trump’s Approval Rating Is Incredibly Steady. Is That Weird Or The New Normal?

It's the way Trump is popular that matters. He won the 2016 election not because of popularity as such, but because he carried certain states.
Presidential elections are nation wide events. Most states don't matter in them. In Minnesota, they are hardly noticeable locally. It was the founders intention that only certain states, ones with large numbers of voters who were evenly divided should choose out president. If you want a role in choosing who the next president will be, you should move to a state like Ohio.

Personally I think he won because the DEMs are ignoring citizens in vast regions of the country.
This is a better map that leaves out all the non-voting empty land. A lot of these places that are "red" are just empty.

Excellent map !!!
But my point still stands... :-)
I am not sure how the DEMs will adjust to appeal to the heartland...
What is Donald Trump doing for folks in the heartland, exactly? Klobuchar's infrastructure plan or Warren's plans on agriculture, housing, and child care offer something a lot more tangible than what the President has done.

Both sides ignore voters in vast regions of the country. Certainly both sides ignore Minnesota.

Hurting them mostly. But he was willing to make promises Democrats wouldn't make. He promised to keep smokestack industries open. He promised to keep the nation dependent on coal. The fact is, he isn't able to do that except in certain isolated instances where he is able to apply pressure. But at least he promised.

Mostly he promised conservative judges and justices... And he has delivered.
Not to mention a reduction in federal regulations and control.
If interested... Here is Politifact's take on Trump's Progress
"PolitiFact’s Trump-O-Meter is tracking the progress of 102 promises Trump made on the campaign trail.
• PolitiFact rated 17 Trump pledges Promise Kept, with another 11 rated Compromise. That means Trump achieved complete or partial success on about 27 percent of his promises during his first two years in office.
• Another 28 promises, or about 27 percent, are rated In the Works, which means he’s taken some action but it’s too soon to tell the outcome.
• PolitiFact rated 18 promises as Broken and another 28 as Stalled, meaning no significant action has been achieved. Put another way, 45 percent of Trump’s promises have run into significant obstacles during the first half of his tenure."
