Keep Dave Petition

Sun Sailor Petition Coverage

Parents and students are already speaking out against Jenkins’ decision through a Change.org petition, “Keep Dahl in Position,” which is seeking 2,500 signatures.  This is Dahl’s 17th year as principal.

This is not related to the petition. I thought I would mention that Jerry and I are still disagreeing over at G2A School Choice Revisited if you are interested.

For new readers, Jerry is a big supporter of using vouchers and school competition to close the achievement gap.

His assumption is that a good school with effective personnel would be able to over come those Unlucky factors discussed yesterday.

And that any school that can not is failing to fulfill their promise to the kids and tax payers.

I like this comment from the petition.

"REASON FOR SIGNING

If you want to be effective in changing your community you need to understand what’s happening here. Superintendent Jenkins is forcing out Dahl because the district is being targeted for “racial justice”.

Non-white students are suspended at a higher rate than white students so the conclusion by Jenkins is that Dahl is a racist and has to go. He will be replaced by a nonwhite principal and the teachers will not be allowed to discipline nonwhite students anymore.

Classrooms will become unmanageable and chaotic as unruly students won’t be able to be removed anymore. Academic rigor will go out the window and the school will sink into decline. People are afraid to speak up about this for fear of being labeled with the scarlet R and even losing their job.

Remove this superintendent or this district is done."

And this one:

"During my four years at Armstrong, it was clear David Dahl is a strong supporter of his students, both in their academics and extracurriculars. He was a strong supporter of our AP curriculum. He came to academic letter and foreign language academic award ceremonies. Mr. Dahl was also present at many sporting events such as basketball and football games. During my time in theatre and the music program, he was present at every concert and at least one performance for our theatre runs. He also made it to a dress rehearsal or two. Mr. Dahl even served as a chaperone for band and orchestra tours. More than that, he was always a warm, welcoming face to students. He would ask us how we were doing, which classes we enjoyed, and what we liked to do outside of school each and every time he saw us. Mr. Dahl also encouraged students in their pursuits after high school, whether that be for college or the start of their careers.

If this is not the type of principal the administration wants for Armstrong High School, they are making the right decision. But considering most students, parents, and community members want an encouraging leader who deeply cares for those under his care leading our loca high schools, the administration is likely making a grave mistake."
