Trump Should Resign?

This article caught my attention since it was in a Conservative publication, and the author makes an excellent case.  Washington Examiner via MSN Trump doesn't deserve impeachment (but he should resign)

I am not sure why any American would want to keep this divisive tawdry soap opera going on in our country's highest office, especially when it seems that Pence would do okay as President.

Of course it is highly unlikely that Trump will have the humility and/or wisdom to do what is best for the country.  I mean he is a narcissistic meglo-maniac who loves the attention / notoriety.  But we can keep hoping that he someday puts the nation's needs before his own pride.

I just had another thought: I really feel for Melania and his children. I mean they probably knew that their patriarch was a sleezy philanderer since he is on his third younger trophy wife, however having to see it proven in the media day after day has to be traumatizing. 😣

"...what is best for the country." Really? Isn't that what he IS doing?

I love how the conservative columist's idea of a "fair deal" means that the mob boss gets to live out the rest of his life in Florida with no risk of penalty, keeping all the spoils of his crimes, while his hand-picked successors get to keep running the operation.

Jerry,
If you think Trump's tawdry perverted dirty laundry being aired in real time is best for our country, I just don't know what to say...

The good news for Melania is that she may have a step child that she has not met yet. I am sure she is looking forward to meeting the Mother and Child. :-)

The good news for Bill Clinton is that he is starting to look like a moral person by comparison. :-)

Sean,
Same point... How much damage do you want to do to our country's reputation so you can feel Trump is adequately punished.

jerrye92002 said...

So, is the airing of dirty laundry the fault of the laundry, or of those waving it about?

Sean said...

The Mueller investigation may well show us that the whole Trump cabal is illegitimate. Taking Trump out by himself doesn't undo the damage. It does for you, because then you can stop being asked to dance around to explain why you voted for such a charlatan.

Jerry,
The unfaithful husband does not get off that easy. He made his poor choices.

Sean,
I really don”t care if Trump cheated on Melania, she knew what she was getting as did we unfortunately.

I still prefer this idiot over Clinton. I would just like Pence more, and Romney even more. :-)

Jerry,
After thinking about it.

I think I would have shown more mercy towards Trump if he had come clean early, apologized for his past transgressions and asked for forgiveness. Instead he chose to lie, attack innocent people, cover up his failures, etc.

Do you think he has learned anything yet?

Do you think he will change and become a better man?

I just don’t see it. He made the mess, he gets to deal with the consequences.

jerrye92002 said...

I would rather the President deal with the mess left by previous Presidents and the Congress, rather than the trivialities of his personal life. Rather than make a bigger mess of the country and be an exemplar of personal rectitude. One affects me and everybody I care about; the other does not.

John said...

Jerry,
He has lied and cheated on his wives for decades.
He has broken his most sacred vows repeatedly.
He has paid hush money and lied about it.

I am amazed how you are still willing to trust him.

Remember: Trump acts for the pleasure and enrichment of Trump. All we can hope is that his personal desires are aligned with what is good for America.

Too bad it was McCain who got Cancer and died. At least John McCain understood the concept of serving the public and our country with honor and humility.

Trump unfortunately still has not learned about vows, honor, honesty, etc. Hopefully someday he gets it.

jerrye92002 said...

So, you wish death to our elected President.

You conflate his personal failings with his performance as President, with no evidence whatsoever.

You make VERY rash assumptions about his motivations as President, and would taint the obvious good results because of alleged "bad motivations."

Be amazed. I will trust but verify. He hasn't cheated on ME yet.

Trump's Fall: The End Game

Anybody care to guess if or when Trump will resign? I will say sometime in 2019.

John said...

Jerry,
Given the choice of McCain or Trump... It is an easy choice.

I am sure one of these lies may impact you

How would you know if he was cheating on you, if you are too scared to seriously look. Please remember that he has been doing this for decades.

jerrye92002 said...

OK, help me. Which of those lies has reduced the value of my investment portfolio? Crashed the value of the dollar? Given my kids some evil role model to follow? Sought to reverse the 2016 election?

jerrye92002 said...

I will say sometime in 2025.

As I said before...

Given your age and conservative religious fervor... I am still puzzled at your support for this man who is so much the unrepentant sinner of poor character.

I mean if a young woman had unprotected sex and got pregnant, you would be the first one to say she has to bear the consequences of her behavior.

However with Trump you say he is making me money, so we can give him a pass on all of his questionable behaviors. Does that indicate that your wallet is more important than your stated beliefs? :-)

John said...

By the way, apparently my wife raised my daughters well... None of them can stand to watch Trump speak because his behaviors are far from what we taught them. (ie honesty, humility, empathy, collaboration, etc) None of which does Trump model.

On the other hand he does have "assertiveness" and "pride" in excess.

jerrye92002 said...

Why are you so insistent on making his personal failings into a failure of his office? It has been said many times we did not elect a role model, but a CEO, warts and all. So long as the CEO doesn't put the profits in his own offshore account and take kickbacks from the suppliers, and profits and stock values increase, who cares? Only some religious busybody determined to impose his/her morality on everybody.

jerrye92002 said...

And I have yet to see a presidential candidate without a massive ego. Nobody could possibly think they were good enough, without that. Assertiveness is a GOOD thing in the job, and the pride strikes me as more inspirational than self-inflating.

"Why are you so insistent on making his personal failings into a failure of his office?"

Because a liar will lie.
A cheater will cheat.
A bully will create conflict.
An incurious slothful glutton will not take the time to make a thoughtful decision.

jerrye92002 said...

Not unreasonable. So where is the evidence that these failings have indeed infected his decisions? Lie, maybe, but what can he cheat at? Bully, maybe, but where is the resulting conflict, except within the Left? And quick decisions are not necessarily thoughtless or wrong.

You just hate the guy; admit it.

John said...

Jerry,
Here is a google search for your consideration.

I sure don't hate the guy, I don't even know him...

jerrye92002 said...

Ah. At least there is a basis for the hatred. The guy is rich. He donates his salary, and more. He gave up control of his businesses. He's making us all rich. Boo! Hiss!

Are ANY of those things verifiable?

John said...

Maybe Jerry is a bit like Melania when Trump said he was just going on a business trip... When he was actually off to screw Stormy or one of the other fine ladies... While Melania sat in denial at home caring for the baby.

I mean...the Obama's gave 15% of their income to charity in 2016...and we know, because we've seen their tax returns. We don't know what the Orange Thing donates.

Moose

John said...

The story about Trump sitting and claiming credit for a charity he did not give to is the epitome of slime ball.

This WAPO piece even has a photo of him doing it...

jerrye92002 said...

He takes no salary as President. Obama became rich doing it.

jerrye92002 said...

After Hurricane Harvey, he wrote a $1 million check to charity.

"He takes no salary as President. Obama became rich doing it."

Possibly the most laughable thing you've ever written here. How much do you think Trump makes every time his administration uses one of his properties?

You are delusional.

"After Hurricane Harvey, he wrote a $1 million check to charity."

One wonders if, as a percentage of income, that's more or less than the Obamas.

One has to wonder, of course, because we haven't seen any tax returns.

Moose

John said...

That was good of him and I think Trump can afford it given the perks of his current position...

Now Obama made most of his money writing books.

John said...

Moose,
FYI, Obama wasn't very charitable until he started making the big bucks... I looked it up back when Romney and him were running for President. Romney gave far more.

Anonymous said...

"Obama wasn't very charitable until he started making the big bucks."

Okay...so...what's Trump's excuse?

Moose

John said...

He is a self centered greedy individual... He has no excuse...

Maybe he is changing somewhat now that a spot light is shining on his behaviors. It is good that he gave the million, his salary, etc...

I find that giving to charity is habit forming. Hopefully he is hooked now.

If you think it was anything other than his usual desire to be the center of attention, you're not very smart.

Maybe it is just my eternal optimist showing...

Though after 18 months of waiting for Trump to grow into the office, even that optimism is being tried....

Maybe you are correct? However spending your days cynical and angry can not be very enjoyable or relaxing. :-)

I'm not cynical, just observant. :-)
