2020 is NOT 2000

Some idiot GOPers are saying we should give Trump time, because we gave Gore time in 2000. So I decided to grind the numbers to figure out how STUPID they really were being.  (I mean even FOX won't air the lies)

Now I understand why Biden will be our next President. In 2000, 1 state and ~500 votes were the deciding factor.  In 2020, Biden won by at least 3 states and 10's of thousands of votes in each "close" state.

Then to make things worse the Trump administration is delaying an orderly transition that is there to keep our country safe and stable.  If you doubt this, listen or read here.  When are GOP members going to kick this loser to the curb?

The Next Two Years Will Be All About a Stolen Election

So what do you think about the GOP leaders supporting Trump?

John said...

I liked Kevin's last statement...

"Still, having said that, about half the country feels just fine supporting a party that acts this way. The rest of us better figure out what to do about that."

Personally I am tired of the idiot extremists in both parties.

Lately on FB, I have been arguing with Progressives who think the 71,000,000 US citizens who voted for Trump are Fascists... Even though most of them are religious church goers...How can so many people be so extreme?

And God only knows what Graham, McConnell, and Cruz are thinking

Laurie said...

So why do you make excuses for people voting for Trump? Why shouldn't other people be expected to see his many faults? Are people who vote for a facist fairly labeled as facist?

I have no problem in allowing Trump time to play out his personal psychodrama. He can rip down all the White House drapes he wants. But he should not be allowed to interfere with the transition.

Laurie,
Not you too... Fascism is something totally different than Trumpism... Just as AOC is NOT a Communist...

Trump is a lying manipulative narcissist who beliefs in Religious rights, property rights, etc.

Hiram, Agreed.

Laurie said...

Do you think that people that voted for Trump have shown a major lapse in values or judgement? What about people who are supporting his claims of voter fraud? What about their values and judgement?

The Republican Party Needs To Be Razed and the Earth Salted Behind It

"The key question is whether it’s possible to convince moderate conservatives to care about this kind of stuff. Or, like so many of us, are they willing to give it a pass as long as Republicans do the things they want them to do?"

So what do you think?

John said...

Laurie,
The question in my mind is what are people willing to do and tolerate for the good of America?

I assume that most Trump True Believers understand that Trump lies, cheats, etc.

However they are willing to tolerate this behavior "for the good of America"...

The people that worry me are those who are delusional and think that Trump is honest, brilliant, etc...

So what is "good judgment" / "good values"?

Are morality tests or results more important?

Laurie said...

What has Trump done for the "good of the country" ?

I think many Trump voters like the fact that he is a racist liar.

John said...

I am not going to make a list of what he did that is good because beauty is in the eye of the beholder.

You have to understand that half of Americans believe that the Democratic agenda is SO HARMFUL to the USA that they voted for Trump.

I agree with you and so does Kevin Drum

Who’s Afraid of Joe Biden? Fox News.

Thanks for reminding me / helping me to understand what is wrong with half the voters in this country.

A lot of people I engage are single issue voters. In theory, and maybe even in practice, this means no other issue matters besides the single issue which I call "X". This view is terrifying in it's implications. Think of the issues that don't matter to the single issu voter, the issues that aren't x. Treason doesn't matter. The health and safety of the American people don't matter. Honesty and integrity don't matter. Character doesn't matter. Elections don't matter unless candidates in favor of X win. A vote for Hitler is justified, just as long as he has the favored position on X. For single issue voters, the slippery slope is a cliff, that they are will to push the rest of America over. And the tragedy is that the single issues voter isn't just winning, rather it's that he or she may have already won. OUr nation is immeasurably worse for that.

Laurie,
I agree... I don't know what those DEM voters are thinking... :-)

Hiram,
ProLife is definitely one of them for many GOPers.

The DEM unwillingness to call a fetus a baby after 22 weeks is one of their biggest problems.

John said...

Laurie,
As long as progressive DEMs are out spoken...

FOX and the GOP will have supporters.

John said...

This is an interesting memo...

Yes the DEMs have a Problem

Anonymous said...

Only in that the Dem establishment insists on naming the wrong thing as the problem.

Moose

Laurie said...

So it sounds like Moose is siding with the progressives when it comes to diagnosing why the dems don't do better in winning more seats in congress. I am undecided. Maybe dems should be more honest about the limits of what progressive policies they can accomplish. If the dems had won the senate they could do no more than what their most conservative member would support.

If the dems want to pass progressive policies they are going to need a much higher level of support from voters all across the country (to win the senate.) Doing well on the coasts and in big cities is not enough to pass a progressive agenda.

Proposing defund the police does not help them win elections in most places.

John said...

Take your pick of topics that scare normal people:

- open borders / end ICE
- defund the police
- single payer healthcare
- guaranteed incomes
- green new deal
- etc

If the DEMs don't figure out how to clearly define and control these, they will keep losing.

Laurie said...

House Democrats didn’t do too well this year. But we should have seen this coming.

John said...

I watched Bernie Sanders on PBS News Hour tonight...

He was adamant that Far Left is the only way...

Oh well... If the DEMs don't straighten this out now.
The Senate will go to the GOP in the GA special election.

More years of our slimy buddy Mitch.

Laurie said...

I think you are right about the dems being percieved as in favor of open borders and this does not help them win votes. Actually, most of your list did come up to some degree in the presidential primary and these policies probably do not help them win elections. I think a better policy to campaign on is expand Obama care, which is what Biden did.

John said...

It will be interesting to watch who Biden picks for cabinet members.

If he picks Progressives the GOP will use it as proof that the Far Right controls him in every GA Senate ad.

Sean said...

The GOP is going to say anybody Biden picks for his cabinet is going to be too progressive. Biden should ignore the noise and just pick the people he thinks are best.

Laurie said...

Elizabeth Warren: What a Biden-Harris administration should prioritize on its first day

John said...

Sean,
Probably should... Though if he puts a self proclaimed Dem Socialist in his cabinet it is likely game over in GA...

Laurie,
My free WAPO views are apparently empty for right now. You will need to copy and paste or summarize.

A question I have been asking generally and of Republicans is "Do you want to resume the norms rump violated, rejected, and abandoned?" And it's funny the answers I have been getting. The dumb ones are on the order of "Norms, I don't need your steen Tking norms." They fail to understand that normas are there to protect the minority and the powerless, the situation they are now in.

I, personally believe in fairness, even on occasion, decency. I thought the Trujp administration should have honored house subpoenas just as I believe the Biden administration should honor senate subpoenas. But I also believe the senate should act in good faith. I believe they should do want they didn't do during the Obama consideration, give presidential nominees full and fair hearings. If they don't do that, we need to look at alternatives.
