Romney for President

I think our country really screwed up when Romney lost in 2012...  Just think..

We would have had 4 fewer years of Obama in office and Trump would never have gotten in.

However the ever diverging Far Left and Far Right voters keep rejecting moderate politicians.

Mitt was never much of a politician. He had no moral center. But I do think that he would have been a great Secretary of Health and Human Services. Obama really missed an opportunity when he did appoint Romney to run Obamacare.

There was nothing immoderate about Obama, something reflected in his bouts of indecisiveness. He was hindered by a combination of honesty and an ability to see too many sides of an argument.

Trump's problem is that he projects too much and is too frightened by what he projects. It explains his withdrawal and infeffectiveness, consumed by fear as he is by what Mueller might find.

I think Hiram pretty much said it all here.

Mitt Romney is moderate in temperament, but not in policy.
Barack Obama was a moderate in temperament and policy.

As I've said many times before, it's going to take about one day of the next Democratic President for Republicans to pine for the days for Barack Obama.

Mitt is morally malleable. That's why it's best for him to have his moral agenda supplied to him by someone else. He is a guy you want when you want to get things done, but definitely not the guy you want deciding what to do.

Hiram,
You are humorous...

Saying that a pretty devout Mormon has no moral center is a bit odd.

Sean,
As Hiram noted, Romney was pretty moderate in Massachusetts.

And if the DEMs put up candidates far left of Obama, I am kind of thinking it may be awhile before they win again.

"As Hiram noted, Romney was pretty moderate in Massachusetts."

That's not the guy who ran in 2012 -- he disavowed all of his "moderate" accomplishments.

Yes, he was trying to appeal to the right voters.

As we know he failed, and therefore lost.

Mormonism can be kind of flexible about things. Joseph Smith was not exactly candid about the number of women he married.

How is that relevant to modern Mormons and their moral center?

Joseph Smith is the revered prophet of the church. He is the source of the Book of Mormon and other crucial documents of the church whose authority is based on the credibility of his witness.

Maybe you should research their current charity work...

I bolded why many liberals would be anti-Mormon charity. :-)

"Mormon charities follow four basic steps in their operations:

1. Receive funds from people around the world. Donors include Church members as well as other generous people who support Mormon humanitarian aid efforts.

2. Identify needs and develop projects to serve and meet those needs.

3. Find local organizations to partner with and help them successfully complete projects.

4. Engage volunteers to support these partners and projects, and provide a coordinated response to area needs.

Mormon humanitarian efforts are based on four principles: self-reliance, personal responsibility, community support, and sustainability."

They apparently expect people to learn to fish, not just act like little birds waiting for mama to give them chewed up food.

Romney is a good businessman. That's why he would have made an excellent administrator of Obamacare. But as a businessman, he is also a guy who goes along.

If he was one to "just go along", he wouldn't have posted a position that is opposite of Trump before the Nov election...

I understand that you disliked what Romney did as a business person, however we really do not know enough to judge...

Tut-tutting about Donald Trump's Tweets is one thing. We'll see if he actually votes to limit the President's actions. It's not as if as a Republican in Utah, he's in any electoral danger.

John said...

No danger from a DEM, however another GOP person may be more Trump friendly.

Romney won his primary by something like 40 points a couple of months back.

It is good to be a Mormon candidate in Utah. :-)

I am fascinated by and a big fan of Mormonism. It's the one truly American religion. PBS had a special on the Mormon church a number of years ago, which is still available on their streaming service. I highly recommend it.
